Marcos teaches double bass (classical and jazz) at the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg. He is the principal bass in the Meridian Symphony and Sinfonia Gulf Coast. While in Illinois, he was principal bass of two chamber orchestras in Champaign-Urbana (Sinfonia da Camera and Prairie Ensemble). Marcos has appeared as soloist and guest teacher in masterclasses in the United States and Brazil. Marcos holds a DMA degree in Music Performance at the University of Illinois in Champaign Urbana where he was teaching assistant. He has previously been a faculty member at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
Marcos studied with professor Milton R. Masciadri in Porto Alegre, Brazil at the Music Conservatory of the Symphonic Orchestra (OSPA). After moving to the U.S., he studied at the University of Georgia with his son (professor Milton W. Masciadri). Marcos finished his doctorate in music performance and jazz studies at the University of Illinois with professor Michael Cameron. During this time Marcos specialized in Europe with professors Duncan McTier (Switzerland) and Franco Petracchi (Italy). In 2003, Marcos studied with F. Rabbath and Frank Proto. In 2004, he was in Paris studing with Rabbath. He has participated in master classes with F. Rabbath, Thomas Martin, Gary Karr, Tierre Barbé, Edwin Barker, Lawrence Wolfe, John Patitucci, etc. He also took lessons with David Murray and Y. Goilav.
Marcos has been part of several cd recordings and is also very active performing on the electric bass. In 2002, Marcos recorded a CD with Rudolf Haken's compositions. In 2003 he played music by English composer Steve Martland with electric bass.
Marcos has toured in Italy, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Germany and England as principal bass and soloist. He participated in the Montreaux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), and Vienne Jazz Festival (France). In London, he played in the Fairfield Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall. Performances in 2003 include several Brazilian cities, including the south american premiere of Frank Proto's Carmen Fantasy, with the Caxias do Sul Symphony Orchestra. In 2003 and 2006 appeared as a soloist with OSPA (Porto Alegre Symphonic Orchestra). Marcos' first CD will be released in 2007. Marcos uses a Rumano Solano bass (http://www.rumanosolanostringbasses.com/) made in 1998 and bows by J. Grunberger and Gavarotti from Turin, Italy.
