Director: Dr. Marcos Machado, Professor of Bass at the University of Southern Mississippi

We are very proud to announce double bassist and composer Frank Proto's visit to the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg (Feb 1 and 2, 2007). Proto is a former bassist with the Cincinnati Symphony. He was also the composer in residence for the orchestra from 1972 until 1996.

Nowadays Proto is in demand performer, teacher and composer. In October 2006 Proto was awarded the Grand Prize for his Fiesta Bayou and Kismet in the First New Orleans International Composer Competition.

This is a unique event in Hattiesburg as Proto will share his profound knowledge with both bass and composition majors. This will be the first of a series of major double bass events in the state of Mississippi .
